Reader Remarks on:

Short-Term vs. Long-Term Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer

Duration of ADT in PC

SB Strum, Ashland, OREGON, 15 Jun 2009 7:25 AM EST

The observation is important but students of ADT know that the depth of the PSA nadir on ADT is an excellent indicator of subsets of patients that will not optimally respond to ADT and who need a change in treatment strategy, rather then lumping such patients into a prolonged treatment with ADT which is not without its side effects. Our paper (reference below) details such information & indicates that failure to reach a PSA nadir of 0.05 or less selects patients who are at major risk for cancer-specific mortality.
